The Pomegranate Collection Story
Pomegranate Style is eclectic, funky, bohemian, colorful and respectfully maximalist.
The Pomegranate vibe harkens to the design of the former Pomegranate Inn located in Portland, Maine’s coveted West End neighborhood. Streets of precisely designed architectural beauties with many John Calvin Stevens creations, most of the West End’s individual homes are on the National Historic Register and or the local historic buildings list. The Pomegranate at the corner of Neal and Carroll Streets is one of the more distinctive structures.
Pomegranate Inn was imagined by Isabel Smiles and was one of the first meticulously designed and award winning Bed & Breakfasts in Maine. Hand painted walls, a vast collection of eccentric and original art much by emerging Maine talent, unique antiques and modern finishes enhanced the space to the delight of guests and reviewers.
The inn was purchased in 2007 by Kim Swan (as Cygnet Gallery’s second iteration was thriving in Portland’s Arts District) and the art, antique and decor collection was added to over the next seventeen years. In the fall of 2024 the inn was sold to young, experienced professionals who wanted to take the property in a different direction design wise and create their own image of hospitality.
Thus the majority of the art and antique collection was moved to Swan’s eponymous Farm in Sullivan, Maine to use in her newest hospitality venture. Treasures without a destination will be available for purchase along with myriad pieces left over from other design and construction projects.
The summer collection pop up will arise at 117 Main Street in Northeast Harbor, Maine for the 2025 season. Staff will add to the items available for sale as space allows hopefully dispersing with the entire array of decorative pieces, furniture and art by summer’s end.
